DAP's leader half-truths and lies exposed! #Negaraku #Malaysia

A few days ago, Malaysians were shocked with the headline "Public transport ridership falling, despite the billions spent ".

It was based on a statement issued by a DAP MP, who wants others to refer to him as doctor due to his PHD.

This is a perfect example of how DAP uses selective statistics, picking and choosing certain date periods and hide important information to paint a bleak narrative to attack the government..

To be fair, there was a period where traffic on some lines had fallen due to a fee increase at the end of 2015 - the first increase in 19 year which was to make public transportation more affordable and sustainable.

However, the numbers have since more than recovered and showing strong growth.

For those who do not know, Singapore increases their fees every year but Malaysia does it once in two decades thus the hike is more noticeable and headline-making.

DAP also does not tell you that the drop in Monorail ridership was that many trains were withdrawn in 2017 due to safety concerns - hence reducing frequency and capacity.

DAP also does not tell you that the drop in KTM Komuter ridership was due to the start of the Komuter double-tracking project that aims to improve service levels and reduce waiting times.

However during the upgrading period, train frequency was reduced hence reducing ridership.

When you introduce a new transport mode such as the MRT, there will certainly be cannibalization of other modes as some people may find MRT more suitable to them than the others - so it is important to look at the overall increase. This is something that DAP had also left out.

Overall, the per day ridership numbers show that the investments have paid off with more people in the Klang Valley taking public transportation than ever .

In fact, it is 30% more users in 2017 compared to the same period in 2016 - translating to 170,000 people.

Between 2017 and 2016, 170,000 more people takes public transport on a daily basis- and this is a lot of cars and bikes.

We are talking about 740,000 people daily in 2017 versus 570,000 in 2016.

How is this a bad thing or a failure?

And this figure is expected to continue growing as people familiarize themselves with the services.
